In the air The flight trip is usually the most exciting part of the journey for first time flyers. There are lot of knew impulses and many people will feel uncomfortable during this new experience, especially those who are traveling alone. We will go through some of the experiences that you will have during the flight.
During the flight, especially during the take of and landing, it is most likely that you will experience ear pain due to the air pressure. The pain will not last long but are very comfortable. Try to use chewing gum during the take off and landing. To remove the pains try to hold your nose while blowing air through the nose.
You will most likely experience turbulence. Sometime it is almost unnoticeable and other time it will be very strong. Turbulence is not dangerous; do not panic. Look at your fellow passengers: are they panicking? Look at the crew: are they panicking? Most likely, nobody is panicking. Sometimes you will be asked to fasten the seat belts because of strong winds or turbulence. This is not because your life is in danger; it is because people should sit in their seats instead of walking/staggering around in the plane while it is shaking. Every time you feel uncomfortable: look around. Are people panicking on the plane?
There are coming many noises from the airplane during the plane. Pay no attention to these noises, the plane are not falling apart. Again, look around: is anybody panicking? Probably not.
If you have a tourist class, it might be that the space available is very limited. Remember that the person sitting next to you have the same problem. Try to be polite and do the best out of the situation. Do not start arguing about chair-arms.
Service varies between the aircrafts and routes, but normally you will have the opportunity to contact the airline crew. If you have any questions, call the crew and ask your questions.
During take-off and landing, you must turn off any electronic devices. Cell phones and radios have to be turned off during the entire flight. Always ask the cabin crew before using any electronic equipment (i.e. laptops, compact disk players or camera). On some routes, you will find the rules for use of electronic equipment in the information magazines that you have been given.
